First Meeting
Wang Ning inherited the Exquisite Sound Sect as a result of her mother - the former sect master - being killed by members of the Hidden Fiend Sect. She solicited help from various powerful cultivators outside of her sect, like Eccentric Scarletflame, to destroy the Hidden Fiend Sect.[403] Unfortunately her plans would end in failure as it turned out that it was a scheme of the Nascent Soul Ancestor of Zenith Yin Island.[405] Wang Ning used her Wood Dragon Table, a sect protecting treasure, to run away. Before leaving she took notice of an Early-Core Formation cultivator Han Li holding his own against a Heavenwide Corpse sent to hunt down escapees.[410]
Given the now hostile situation with Zenith Yin Island - a superpower in the Inner Star Seas, Wang Ning moved the Exquisite Sound Sect to the Heavenly Star City under the protection of the Star Palace. Here she would learn more about the Han Li from her junior sisters Zhuo and Fan. Wang Ning determined that the Exquisite Sound Sect desperately needed a Core Formation elder. Determined to obtain one, she met Han Li after learning that he was interested in obtaining her Heaven Lightning Bamboo. Using the Bamboo, Wang Ning successfully obtained Han Li’s support as a Guest Elder of the Exquisite Sound Sect.[410]
Heavenvoid Hall
Lacking power, Wang Ning wanted to ascend to become a Core Formation cultivator. Additionally, she was already at the False-Core stage - one step away from forming a Core. As a result, she took the risk to enter the Heavenvoid Hall in the hopes of finding spiritual medicine that increases the chances of forming a core.[436] To increase her chances for success, Wang Ning solicited help from an un-named Core Formation cultivator the Heavenvoid Hall with her. In the entrance room to the Outer Halls, she became startled by the sudden appearance of Han Li. When the teleportation formation to the outer halls opened she was teleported to a random location in the outer halls. Much to her dismay, she was separated from the Core Formation cultivator that she had hired. Luckily, she was teleported to the same location as Han Li and a Devil Dao cultivator named Ge Li from the Mount Heaven Island.
Fortunately for Wang Ning at the Foundation Establishment-stage, she was joined with cultivators best suited to travel through the Vengeful Ghost Haunt despite the Haunt being a challenge for even Core Formation cultivators. While traveling through the haunt, Wang Ning’s group defeated a Ghost King that would have proven to be fatal if it wasn’t for Ge Li possessing a Weeping Soul Beast and the Divine Devilbane Lightning from Han Li’s Bamboo Cloudswarm Swords. After completing the Vengeful Ghost Haunt trial, Wang Ning observed an entertaining reunion between Han Li and a female cultivator Yuan Yao who had assumed the fake identity of Ge Li. Here the group went its separate ways. Wang Ning content with exploring the outer halls of the Heavenvoid Hall, separated from Han Li who was entering the inner halls with several Nascent Soul superpowers to claim the Heavenvoid Cauldron. Wang Ning would rejoin her original hired-help in exploring the outer halls.
While Wang Ning was in the Heavenvoid Hall, her power over the Exquisite Sound Sect was usurped by her aide Lady Fan.[540] Unknown to Wang Ning, Han Li had stolen the Heavenvoid Cauldron from underneath the noses of Nascent Soul elders from both Righteous and Devil Dao superpowers. This resulted in the absorption of the Exquisite Sound Sect into the Starfall Coalition as a tool to hunt down Han Li.
Umbra Realm
Wang Ning was captured after attempting to return to the Exquisite Sound Sect. She was unwillingly forced to become the bound concubine and cultivation furnace for Wen Tianren - a late Core Formation disciple of the Archsaint Six Paths (a Devil Dao superpower). As a favored concubine, she would travel in Wen Tianren]‘s entourage. Wang Ning would have a surprise re-encounter with a late Core Formation stage Han Li when Wen Tianren decided to investigate a heavenly omen that was being conjoured by Yuan Yao’s Soulrise Technique.[570] Wang Ning hesitated following Wen Tianren’s order to capture Yuan Yao as a hostage to use against Han L].[576] Before Wen Tianren could punish Wang Ning for insubordination, a Ghost Mist appeared swallowing all nearby cultivators and dragging them into the Umbra Realm.
In the Umbra Realm, Wang Ning was unable to draw upon her spiritual power and skills. She would continue traveling with Wen Tianren to increase the odds of survival. Together they would travel towards the Stormwind Mountain which was rumored to be the exit back to the Mortal Realm. While traveling upwards they encountered Han Li who promptly killed Wen Tianren who was powerless without spiritual power freeing Wang Ning from her suitor. Unable to use spiritual power to conceal her appearance, Wang Ning was forced to show her true appearance to Han Li.[594] After a quick reunion, she continued up the mountain along with Han Li and Mei Ning. Together with the help of Han Li’s thunderstorm wing movement technique - they escaped the Umbra Realm in a calm Endless Sea near the Heavenly South Continent.[595]
Traveling south, all of them reached the State of Xi where took the opportunity to tease Han Li about hiding the fact that he originated from the Heavenly South Region. She further teased Han Li by suggesting that Han Li take Mei Ning as his concubine.[596] Eventually Wang Ning separated from the group going into seclusion to fortify her Core Formation cultivation base.[597]
Devilfall Valley
Sometime during Wang Ning’s stay in the Heavenly South Region she befriended Song Yu.[751] Wang Ning was eager to advance her cultivation towards the Nascent Soul stage by entering the Devilfall Valley to obtain the rare Spirit Kindle Fruit.[797] She solicited Han Li’s assistance by having Mountain Lord Song deliver an invitation. Upon reunion, Wang Ning was astonished that the now Early Nascent Soul Han Li had again progressed since she last saw him. Fortunately for Wang Ning, Han Li agreed to enter the Devilfall Valley after taking care of errands.
"*Every time I see Brother Han, it seems his cultivation vastly increases each time. This unknown cultivation art of yours is truly astonishing. And now, Brother Han’s resounding fame has left us at a loss for words. Rumors have spread everywhere that Brother Han’s strength is greater than even a mid Nascent Soul stage cultivator.*" - Wang Ning to Han Li
Years later, Wang Ning would meet a Mid-Nascent Soul Han Li at Birchleaf City in the Chang Province right before entering the Valley. During this reunion, Wang Ning provided updates on happenings within the Heavenly South for Han Li who had been absent travelling in the Far West regions of the Heavenly South. Their preparations were cut short after Han Li was forced to leave. It was becuase after seing Wang Ning’s deadly beauty, Monarch Soul Divergence who had been linked to Han Li’s second Nascent Soul was driven out of control and, as a result, stirred Han Li’s emotions.[798]
Later, Wang Ning entered the Devilfall Valley using special methods. She reunited with Han Li inside the Valley at a pre-arranged meeting location.[828] Wang Ning was upset having to wait several days for Han Li because groups of cultivators were scouring the forest making her nervous that she would be discovered. Despite her worries, she put an invisible tracker on a Ghost Spirit Sect disciple that had information on the whereabouts of the Spirit Kindle Fruit. After catching up, Wang Ning and Han Li managed to get ahead of the Ghost Spirit Sect group searching for the fruit using Han Li’s Wind Rider Chariot and Brightsight Eyes to avoid invisible spacial tears that were slowing down the Ghost Spirit Sect.[834] With this advantage, Wang Ning was able to acquire the Spirit Kindle Fruit robbing the Ghost Spirit Sect of the opportunity.[835]
After achieving her objective, Wang Ning intended to continue following Han Li to safely exit the valley. However, these plans were cut short when an Elder Devil Bloodflame was accidentally released and began hunting cultivators within the valley to consume their souls. Wang Ning nearly died to a surprise attack by the Elder Devil intending to kill Han Li. She was saved by Han Li who carried her with his Thunderstorm Wing movement abilities.[842] Wang Ning fled the battle forced to find her own way out of the Devilfall Valley after Han Li made it clear that he would not be able to guarantee her safety against the Elder Devil that demonstrated Late-Nascent Soul abilities.
Captured by the Heavenly Devil Sect
Later, Wang Ning formed her Nascent Soul. She decided to travel to the Great Jin because the Heavenly South had scarce resources for Nascent Soul cultivators. Before leaving she met Han Li’s dao companion - Nangong Wan.[1201] In an unfortunate stroke of events, Wang Ning accidentally caught the attention of the Hu Qinglei, grand elder of the Heavenly Devil Sect. This grand elder was charmed by her beauty and decided to forcefully make her his concubine. He placed restrictions on her body preventing her from escaping. He forcefully abducted her, bringing her back to the Heavenly Devil Sect to formally cement their union in a ceremony. She did not want to be bound as a concubine to this Deity Transformation-stage grand elder.[1242]
Luckily before the ceremony occurred, Wang Ning was surprised to discover that Han Li was present as a guest of the sect. She was shocked to learn of his growth that allowed him to be regarded as an equal to other Deity Transformation stage cultivators. Her brief shock allowed the grand elder to learn of her relationship with Han Li.[1241] Wang Ning nearly renounced her relationship with Han Li to avoid conflict and troubles for her longtime friend. However, out of friendship Han Li offered to save her from her predicament. She accepted his offer.[1242]
Unfortunately, this resulted in a conflict between Han Li and the grand elder.[1242] To her surprise, Han Li prevailed and freed her from her shackles.[1246] She was escorted by Han Li out of the sect. After leaving the sect, she traveled with him to a scenic mountain where they intimately lived together for several months sharing stories and experiences. However, both lost control of their impulses and indulged themselves in each-others bodies. Wang Ning took the opportunity to share her true feelings with Han Li. She was upset that he already had a Dao Companion, and was unwilling to be second in his heart. She also determined that she would not love another in her entire lifetime. As a result she steeled her heart now intent and focused on pursuing the endless Dao.[1247]
Entering the Elder Devil Realm
Centuries later, Wang Ning struggled to progress to the Deity Transformation stage. As a result, she travelled throughout the Mortal world in search of spiritual medicines that would assist her in breaking through her bottleneck. During her travels she encountered a Devilish altar and accidentally triggered it bringing her into contact with a Devilish Matriarch named Liu Ji. Luckily and unluckily, Wang Ning was perfect material to serve as a future clone for the matriarch. As a result, she was imparted both Devilish Energy and cultivation arts by the Matriarch. The Matriarch also helped Wang Ning ascend to the Elder Devil Realm where Wang Ning was given the resources and guidance to progress.[2128]
At some point, Wang Ning became acquaintances with the young mistress named Lan Ying, of the Vast Origin House - a mysterious organization whose power and influence extends across realms. Lan Ying possess divination abilities and used these abilities to predict that Wang Ning would be able to obtain a solution for her predicament. Centuries later, Wang Ning reunited with Han Li who had coincidentally visited the Vast Origin House.[2126] She was initially shocked and later elated when she was able to confirm that it was indeed Han Li. Together they caught up with each other on their experiences since departing centuries ago. She was shocked to see that Han Li had progressed to the Late-Body Integration stage.[2127] She let Han Li know of her future plight, to which he promised to resolve her matter in the future.[2128] Before Han Li left, Wang Ning helped him find information about Wu You[2131] and personally met him just to warn him about Liu Ji’s arrival.[2138]
Centuries later, Wang Ning was freed from her perilous fate when her master died. It turned out her master had previously usurped the position of Matriarch. However, her master died to the previous matriarch looking to reclaim the position. It turned out that Han Li also assisted in eliminating Wang Ning’s master. Her master had a prior defense-pact with the other two Patriarchs of the Devilish Races. However, Han Li who now ascended to the Grand Ascension stage stalled the patriarchs resulting in her masters’ death.[2251] After being freed she met with Han Li who had offered to bring her back to the Spirit Realm and help her cultivate. However, she recognized that her soulmate would eventually ascend further onto the Immortal Realm. She felt that she may not be able to catch up in time. Therefore, she steeled her resolve and decided to remain within the Elder Devil Realm and progress to higher realms through her now Devilish cultivation arts. In response to her resolve, Han Li gave her some devilish secret techniques and pills,[2252] as well as experiences and insights in cultivating devilish arts. [2253]
Ascending to True Devil Realm
Han Li asked for Shi Chuankong’s help to use the resources of Vast Origin House to search for Wang Ning. It’s found that she had ascended to Black Water Region. There, she caught the attention of Daoist Master Black River for her looks and aptitude and was invited to join Black River Water Palace. He also wanted her to be his concubine but didn’t dare to force her because she threatened to take her own life. When Daoist Master Black River was in seclusion, she ran away from the palace. However, Daoist Master Black River’s dao partner, Lady Ju, sent people to capture her and exile her into Scalptia Spatial Domain.
Exiled into Scalptia Spatial Domain
In Scalptia Spatial Domain, Wang Ning was fought over by 2 groups of cultivators from Profound City and Puppet City. She then was taken to Puppet City and had her soul sealed by Puppet City Lord Sha Xin. When Profound City and Puppet City collaborated to enter Great Ruins together, Han Li finally found her after many years of search, but she didn’t notice him. On the journey, their boat was attacked by Nine-headed Wyrm, resulting in massive spatial rifts. Han Li immediately jumped forward and was about to grab Wang Ning when a spatial rift suddenly appeared in front of him and sucked him in to separate them again.
Some time after entering Great Ruins, Sha Xin fought against Profound City Lord E Kuai over the holy remains of Devilish Lord. Sha Xin controlled Wang Ning, who controlled 12 puppets at once into formation, to restrain E Kuai. After Han Li managed to get the heart of Devilish Lord, Wang Ning attacked him with 2 golden puppets. Wearing a suit of golden armor, she also attacked Han Li directly with a golden spear. Amidst their fight, Han Li also protected her from Shi Zhanfeng’s attack. When she was about to attack Han Li again, Daoist Xie stopped her, saying they’re on the same side. Then, she and Sha Xin fought E Kuai again while Han Li was resurrecting Devilish Lord. Later, she was knocked out unconscious and injured, and Han Li rushed over to her and brought her to Mistress Liu Hua for her safety before fighting E Kuai. Wang Ning stirred slightly in her unconscious state when Han Li was almost killed by E Kuai.
After Han Li killed E Kuai, Sha Xin and Wang Ning regained their conciousness almost at the same moment. Han Li then asked Sha Xin to unseal her soul. She was surprised when she was finally able to see Han Li again. They reminisced about the past and told each other about their experiences after they had parted ways in the lower realm. She was stunned by Han Li’s experiences and particularly touched by his effort to search for her. When Han Li offered to bring her to True Immortal Realm, she refused because she felt that she would only be a burden to him, considering how tumultuous his experiences were and how formidable his enemies were. She decided and was determined to stay in Scalptia Spatial Domain and become Sha Xin’s disciple to cultivate. In response to her decision, Han Li gave her Spirit Refinement Technique, other suitable devilish arts, Gold-Winged Falcon puppet, & a storage ring that contained the full version of Heavenly Baleful Purgatory Arts, a Reincarnation Palace mask, and some other useful items. In return for his gifts, Wang Ning gave Han Li a half of translucent green jade pendant that had an image of him. Han Li then departed after asking Shi Chuankong and Daoist Xie to look after her.

Entering Underworld
Under Daoist Xie’s instruction, Wang Ning and Shi Chuankong entered Underworld in search of Six Paths Reincarnation Plate to increase their power. After entering a certain valley, they were trapped in a saber array formed by Shang Goat Ghost Tribe beings. It just so happened that Han Li, Jin Tong, Ti Hun, and Gui Wu were located not too far away from them when Gui Wu detected their presences. After Han Li’s group started to help them, they also started fighting again. Wang Ning fought by controlling 2 purple puppets enshrouded with purple lightning that swelled and exploded to break the array. When Han Li was about to teleport all of them away with his lightning teleportation array, she struck the array with 5 black threads to cancel the teleportation because they didn’t recognize Han Li’s group who was all in disguise. Han Li was surprised to see this and then eradicated the black threads before teleporting them again instantly. When Jin Tong and Ti Hun revealed their true appearances, she felt concerned, but then felt at ease after Han Li told her about their identities.
It turned out that they had the same goal. Therefore, they all travelled together to Yellow Springs. After they arrived at the destination, they built 2 small boats from Forgetful Bamboos that Han Li had picked up from when they traversed the Hundred Ghost Forest under Gui Wu’s instruction. One boat was for Han Li and Gui Wu, whereas the other one was for a backup. Meanwhile, the other people including Wang Ning entered Han Li’s Flower Branch domain treasure. When they were close to the center of the lake, they were attacked by Xue Li who was with Bone Emperor and several others riding on top of a Floating Underworld Turtle. After that, they decided to team up because Gui Wu suddenly said that they were also there to hunt down Reincarnation King, so Han Li’s group flew onto the giant turtle. Upon reaching the island at the center of the lake, one of Bone Emperor’s subordinates launched an attack toward the wall of crimson cloud, causing Wang Ning to almost get blown away before Han Li supported her firmly.
Only Han Li’s group was allowed to enter the array surrounding Reincarnation Palace at the center of the island. Then, Bone Emperor finally showed his true power when fighting Reincarnation Palace Master, causing Wang Ning to faint on the spot and prompting Han Li to catch her fall. After the fight was over, she was carried by Han Li in his arms before he passed her to Ti Hun and entered the palace. After that, Wang Ning and the others were also allowed the entry. There, she chose to use Six Paths Reincarnation Plate to recover her previous life’s memory. Around 15 minutes later, she regained her conciousness and hugged Han Li. Her cultivation base dropped from the pinnacle of High Zenith Stage to mid-High Zenith Stage. It was then revealed that she was able to quickly reach the pinnacle of High Zenith Stage because Daoist Xie stripped other cultivators of their law powers and forcibly transferred them to her and Shi Chuankong.
Exploring True Immortal Realm
As soon as they left the Underworld, they were surrounded by Han Li’s enemies. Then, Han Li killed their leader, Shui Changtian, while Wang Ning and Shi Chuankong killed several Immortal envoys. After that, she finally wanted to stay with Han Li despite Han Li’s advice that it would be safer for her to return with Shi Chuankong to the True Devil Realm. When they’re about to part ways, it was revealed that Shi Chuankong harbored romantic feelings for her. However, she had no entanglements with him. Han Li then swept Wang Ning up and brought her to cultivate in Extraheavensphere.
In Extraheavensphere, they stayed in a massive black ball at the center of a cluster of asteroids. Inside their cave abode, Wang Ning entered Han Li’s Flower Branch domain and experienced his Celestial Time Array for the first time. There, they cultivated for over 200,000 years, and her cultivation base returned to the pinnacle of High Zenith Stage. She was considering to break through to Great Encompassment Stage, but Han Li had hit a snag with the severance of his kind corpse soul and was in need of inspiration. Hence, she accompanied Han Li on his journey to explore True Immortal Realm. They visited the Northern Light Immortal Region to appreciate its aurora, the Jade Lake Immortal Region to took a boat on its lake surrounded by color-changing mist, and the Fire Bird Mountain Range of the Heavenly Fire Immortal Region to watch its spectacular eruptions. Wang Ning and Han Li also visited the mysterious green mud swamps of the Flowing Wave Immortal Region, the red sun sea of the Vast Sea Immortal Region, the stormy mountain ranges of the Dark Wind Immortal Region, and other wondrous immortal regions.
Han Li and Wang Ning travelled through 20-30 immortal regions to witness countless spectacular sights over the course of less than 300 years. Considering how massive True Immortal Realm was, they had only managed to explore an extremely small portion of it. Then, Wang Ning accompanied Han Li doing all kinds of good deeds to find the true meaning of kindness across the Soaring Wings Immortal Region. After that, over the course of over 140 years, both of them disguised themselves as a young couple of mortals who opened a clinic in the Crane Ridge Immortal Region and gave free treatments to people until they both grew old together. During Wang Ning’s time with Han Li, she had also committed all kinds of good deeds and accumulated a lot of kind intent, making her soul far more supple and refined. Besides that, her aura also became more gentle and refined.
After Han Li had severed his kind corpse soul, they went to the the Northern Glacial Immortal Region to refine his 72 swords. Then, Han Li brought Wang Ning to the Underworld for her safety before rescuing Nangong Wan from Feng Qingshui of the Heavenly Court. Han Li planned to ask Gan Jiuzhen to escort Wang Ning to the True Devil Realm, but it turned out there was a civil war there. As a result, she could only wait for Han Li’s return in the Reincarnation Palace. On the cloudy night before Han Li’s departure, Han Li and Wang Ning lay together on the rooftop of the palace to gaze at the stars. During that time, she embraced him and revealed that she was Mo Caihuan in her previous life. When the rain fell, she gave Han Li a hint. Then, she was carried into the palace, and a romantic storm also raged on the bed inside the palace the entire night. In the morning, Han Li departed, leaving Wang Ning in tears.
Ending
Countless millennia flew by. In the Black Soil Immortal Region, under a pergola deep within a valley in the True Mantra Sect, Wang Ning was wearing a purple dress and playing a game of Go on a stone table with Daoist Xie. She was capable of holding her own against him. Meanwhile, Han Li and Nangong Wan were watching their game from the side while their daughter was playing with several wooden cat and dog puppets. At this point, Wang Ning had reached the mid-Great Encompassment Stage.
