Zhuo Ruting, also known as the Envoy of the Right, is a Foundation Establishment cultivator of the Exquisite Sound Sect. She served as one of the two highest-ranking officers of the sect alongside Fan Jingmei prior to her mysterious disappearance.
Personality
Although the appearance of the female cultivator named Zhuo Ruting differed from Nangong Wan, the slight similarity between their elegant grace stirred his heart’s deepest depths.[403]
Zhuo Ruting possesses a reserved, disciplined, and dutiful personality. As the Envoy of the Right, she upheld sect law, external security, and operational enforcement. Unlike Fan Jingmei’s strategically manipulative style, Zhuo Ruting’s temperament leaned toward strict order and stability.
She is serious, cautious, and not prone to emotional display. Her decision-making favors tradition, discipline, and the enforcement of sect authority rather than political maneuvering. As a result, she served as the stabilizing counterbalance to Fan Jingmei’s diplomacy-focused leadership.
Although little of her inner emotional life is revealed, her consistent conduct suggests strong loyalty to the Exquisite Sound Sect and unwavering commitment to her duties. Her absence later in the story leaves a noticeable void in the sect’s internal stability.
Appearance
Zhuo Ruting is described as an elegant and graceful female cultivator with a dignified and composed bearing. Though her facial features differ from those of Nangong Wan, she shares a similar refined temperament and noble aura that leaves a lasting impression on observers.
She typically wears flowing cultivator robes styled in the ceremonial fashion of the Exquisite Sound Sect, often embellished with delicate patterns and spiritual ornamentation. Her posture is always upright and disciplined, reflecting her status as one of the sect’s top authorities. Her expression is calm and restrained, revealing little emotion even in tense situations.
In both the donghua and manhua adaptations, she is portrayed as a composed, mature woman whose presence naturally commands respect among disciples and elders alike.
History
Zhuo Ruting served as the Envoy of the Right of the Exquisite Sound Sect, sharing equal authority beneath the Sect Master alongside Fan Jingmei. While Fan Jingmei oversaw diplomacy, strategy, and internal administration, Zhuo Ruting was responsible for:
- Sect discipline
- Defensive security
- Law enforcement
- External hostile response
She was active during the period following the death of Zi Ling’s mother, the original Sect Master, and during the sect’s decline after suffering devastating losses to the Hidden Fiend Sect.
During the period when Fan Jingmei sought revenge against the Hidden Fiend Sect and attempted to enlist Han Li for the assault, Zhuo Ruting remained in the background overseeing sect stability. However, following the catastrophic failure of the mission and the later political turmoil surrounding the Heavenvoid Hall, the Exquisite Sound Sect entered a period of extreme vulnerability.
At some point shortly after these events, Zhuo Ruting mysteriously disappeared. No battle, corpse, or official announcement of death was ever recorded. Her disappearance occurred shortly before the Starfall Coalition formally seized control of the Exquisite Sound Sect. With her sudden absence, the sect lost its primary enforcement authority, leaving Fan Jingmei as the only remaining top-level leader. This directly contributed to the ease with which the Starfall Coalition was able to impose political control over the sect.
Her ultimate fate has never been explicitly confirmed in the novel, manhua, or donghua. However, it is widely presumed that she was secretly eliminated during the political purges that preceded the coalition takeover.
