Rise within the Exquisite Sound Sect
Zhuo Ruting rose to prominence as the Envoy of the Right of the Exquisite Sound Sect, a position second only to the Sect Master and equal in authority to the Envoy of the Left, Fan Jingmei. In this role, she was primarily responsible for sect discipline, defensive security, and the enforcement of sect law, serving as the principal stabilizing force within the sect’s leadership structure.
Following the death of Zi Ling’s mother, the original Sect Master, the Exquisite Sound Sect entered a prolonged period of decline. During this era, Zhuo Ruting worked in coordination with Fan Jingmei to preserve the sect’s remaining strength amid internal instability and growing external pressure throughout the Scattered Star Seas. While Fan Jingmei handled diplomacy, political maneuvering, and long-term strategic planning, Zhuo Ruting focused on maintaining internal order and safeguarding the sect’s defensive posture.
Decline of the Sect
The sect’s situation worsened significantly after suffering major losses at the hands of the Hidden Fiend Sect. During the period when Fan Jingmei sought retaliation and attempted to enlist Han Li for an assault, Zhuo Ruting remained largely behind the scenes, ensuring that the sect’s internal structure did not collapse while its leadership pursued high-risk external actions.[403] Following the failure of these efforts and the subsequent turmoil surrounding Heavenvoid Hall, the Exquisite Sound Sect became increasingly vulnerable to outside interference and political manipulation.
Disappearance and Presumed Death
It was during this chaotic interval that Zhuo Ruting abruptly disappeared. No witnesses reported a battle involving her, no remains were recovered, and the sect issued no formal announcement regarding her death. Her disappearance was sudden and unexplained, standing in stark contrast to her previously consistent presence and unwavering fulfillment of her duties.
Zhuo Ruting’s disappearance occurred shortly before the Starfall Coalition formally seized control of the Exquisite Sound Sect. With the loss of its chief enforcer and guardian of sect law, the sect’s leadership was critically weakened, leaving Fan Jingmei as the sole remaining top authority. This imbalance greatly reduced the sect’s capacity to resist political coercion, facilitating the coalition’s eventual takeover.
Her ultimate fate has never been explicitly confirmed in the novel, manhua, or donghua adaptations. However, based on the timing of her disappearance and the subsequent political purges targeting sect leadership, Zhuo Ruting is widely presumed to have been secretly eliminated. The exact circumstances of her presumed death—whether through assassination, covert conflict, or other concealed means—remain unknown, rendering her disappearance one of the unresolved mysteries surrounding the fall of the Exquisite Sound Sect.
