Wei Lichen is a Nascent Soul Elder of Flowing Mind Sect, residing in the Nine Nations Union within the the Heavenly South Region. He is the great nephew of Wei Wuya, one of a handful of great Late-Nascent Soul cultivators that rule over the Heavenly South, Wei Lichen is renown as a cultivation genius.
Wei Lichen appears to be elegant and noble, but among female cultivators he is renown as a thieving hypocrite and a philanderer. He has eight female disciples/concubines, and he secretly performs Yin Drawing Techniques on them.[715]
Marriage
Years after Nangong Wan formed her Nascent Soul, Wei Lichen had a chance encounter and was entranced by her. He attempted to request her hand in marriage but was refused.
After Nangong Wan refused Wei Lichen’s marriage request several times, Wei Lichen personally caused his great uncle, Wei Wuya, to pay a visit to Masked Moon Sect.
Since Masked Moon Sect was a resident of the Nine Nations Union, Wei Wuya, as leader of the Nine Nations Union, was able to secure an arranged marriage.
The Masked Moon Sect agreed to this marriage for promise of expanding out of the State of Beiliang and Wei Lichen leaving the Flowing Mind Sect after the marriage and joining the Masked Moon Sect.[715]
The Masked Moon Sect imprisoned Nangong Wan from running away from the marriage. They imprisoned her within her cave residence, and her actions were carefully observed by the sect. Additionally, Mid-Nascent Soul grand elder of the Masked Moon Sect used a Heart Restraining Technique on her to be able to forcefully restrict her body when nearby. This grand elder was the elder who approved the force marriage and also knew of Wei Lichen’s intent. This grand elder intended to use Wei Lichen to stifle Nangong Wan’s cultivation..
Unknown to Wei Lichen, his bride had a prior bond with Han Li. The arranged marriage angered Han Li who began plotting to secretly assassinate Wei Lichen. Unaware, Wei Lichen’s life was saved when his bride eloped with Han Li escaping from her imprisonment. After Han Li visited Nangong Wan, she run away with him.[715], and severely harming that Mid-Nascent Soul grand elder of the Masked Moon Sect in process.
To save Wei Lichen from embarrassment, the Masked Moon Sect annulled the marriage by spreading information that Fairy Nangong had suffered an inner demon backlash during cultivation and had lost her life.
Secretly, Wei Lichen was angry because he knew that Han Li had stolen his bride. However, Wei Lichen was forced to drop the matter upon intervention by his great uncle whose influence originally created the arranged marriage. His great uncle was unwilling to offend Han Li whose skills and abilities rivaled that of a Late-Nascent Soul cultivator despite being at the Early-Nascent Soul stage.
