Han Li/Relationships

Spouse

Nangong Wan

Han Li first met Nangong Wan in the restricted zone during the Trial by Blood and Fire, one of the most dangerous initiation trials of the Seven Sects. During this encounter, Han Li assisted Nangong Wan in slaying an inky flood demon, an act that directly saved her life. In the aftermath, he mistakenly identified a rare prostate capsule as a demon core. In reality, the capsule was a powerful aphrodisiac that disrupted both of their spiritual and emotional restraint, leading to an unintentional consummation.

Upon awakening, Nangong Wan attempted to treat the incident as an unfortunate accident brought about by external influence, insisting that no emotional attachment should come from it. Despite this, the encounter left a deep and lasting impression on both parties. Although Nangong Wan repeatedly denied her feelings, Han Li’s behavior toward her subtly changed thereafter. He consistently showed her unusual patience, consideration, and concern, even when doing so conflicted with his normally detached and cautious temperament.

For centuries, their relationship remained unresolved. Nangong Wan struggled between her pride, cultivation priorities, and fear of emotional entanglement, while Han Li lacked the emotional experience to confront her directly. This prolonged ambiguity defined much of their interaction until Han Li’s return from the Scattered Star Seas. Upon hearing that Nangong Wan was to be married off against her will, Han Li immediately sought her out to confirm the truth. During this period, he seriously contemplated eliminating her prospective groom, reflecting both possessive instinct and emotional inexperience.

After confirming that Nangong Wan was indeed being coerced for political reasons, the two chose to abandon sect expectations and elope together. This decision marked a rare moment where Han Li acted primarily for emotional reasons rather than strategic calculation. From that point onward, Nangong Wan became Han Li’s official dao companion and wife, remaining one of the few individuals capable of influencing his personal decisions.

Concubine

Mu Peiling

Mu Peiling falsely claimed to be Han Li’s concubine to escape an unwanted political marriage arranged by her clan. Although Han Li strongly opposed the situation, he had recently become a Nascent Soul elder and feared that publicly denying her claim would damage his authority and reputation among the major clans.

Han Li agreed to assist her cultivation for thirty years, promising not to take her vital yin. At the end of this period, he offered her the choice of remaining a concubine in name or leaving freely to pursue another dao companionship. Despite Han Li’s preference to sever ties out of loyalty to Nangong Wan, Mu Peiling chose to remain, believing that no cultivator would dare take her after her association with a Nascent Soul elder.

Han Li later proposed that she switch to the Copulative Essence Arts to assist his breakthrough, but he ultimately advanced to the Late Nascent Soul stage independently. As a result, their relationship was never consummated. In her later years, Mu Peiling failed to overcome her inner demons caused by unfulfilled love and was unable to reach the Nascent Soul stage before her lifespan ended.

Love Interests

Violet Spirit

Attraction: Mutual

During his time in the Scattered Star Seas, Han Li developed a close working relationship with Wang Ning, also known as Violet Spirit. Unlike many of Han Li’s other relationships, their bond was forged through long-term cooperation, shared danger, and mutual reliance rather than chance encounters. Wang Ning frequently assisted Han Li by providing intelligence, safe locations, and logistical support, while Han Li relied on her discretion and reliability.

As their partnership deepened, genuine romantic feelings formed on both sides. However, neither openly pursued a dao companionship. Han Li’s cautious nature, awareness of the dangers surrounding him, and fear of emotional vulnerability prevented him from acting decisively. After Han Li’s marriage to Nangong Wan, their relationship naturally transitioned into one of mutual respect and unspoken affection.

Yuan Yao

Attraction: Mutual

Han Li first encountered Yuan Yao upon arriving in the Scattered Star Seas. Their most significant interactions occurred within Heavenvoid Hall, where Han Li saved her life on multiple occasions during perilous trials. These repeated rescues established a strong emotional bond rooted in gratitude, trust, and shared survival.

After parting ways, they met again when Han Li returned to the Inner Star Seas while fleeing pursuit from the grade nine demon beast Feng Xi. Due to a coincidence involving teleportation formations, Han Li was mistakenly identified as one of the Core Formation cultivators hired to assassinate Yuan Yao. Instead, he intervened to save her yet again, uncovering and thwarting the assassination plot. Han Li later assisted Yuan Yao in reviving her deceased companion by guarding the ritual site, fully aware that interference could prove fatal. The ritual’s completion resulted in Han Li being forcibly transported to the Umbra Region, separating the two once more. Despite clear mutual affection, repeated interference by fate and circumstance prevented their relationship from progressing beyond companionship.

Dong Xuan

Attraction: One-sided (Dong Xuan)

Dong Xuan, a disciple of Yellow Maple Valley and daughter of Hong Fu, initially viewed Han Li with disdain due to his immunity to her charm techniques and cautious demeanor. After Han Li repeatedly protected her from danger, she developed strong feelings for him. Han Li sensed her attraction but never reciprocated, maintaining a polite and distant relationship. Her unresolved emotions later manifested as inner demons that prevented her from advancing until Han Li dispelled them at her request.

Chen Qiaoqian

Attraction: One-sided (Chen Qiaoqian)

Chen Qiaoqian was Han Li’s senior sister in Yellow Maple Valley. She was originally betrothed to Lu, a morally corrupt cultivator. Lu later drugged her with the intent to violate and murder her before targeting Dong Xuan. Han Li intervened, saving her life and killing Lu. To avoid suspicion, Han Li fed her a memory-erasing pill.

The erasure proved incomplete, leaving lingering impressions. Over time, Chen Qiaoqian developed deep romantic feelings toward Han Li, feelings that persisted despite subsequent memory erasures during politically sensitive events of the Great Tianan Zhengmo War. Although Han Li was attracted to her, he never pursued a relationship, believing her desperation stemmed from a desire for freedom rather than love. Before parting ways after the fall of their sect, Chen Qiaoqian gifted Han Li a new uniform as a final token. Many years later, Han Li learned that she had died unmarried, a revelation that deeply saddened him and remained one of his enduring regrets.

Mo Caihuan

Attraction: One-sided (Mo Caihuan)

Mo Caihuan, daughter of Mo Juren, developed affection for Han Li despite his role in her father’s death. Han Li never reciprocated, citing the irreconcilable divide between mortals and cultivators. Though he extended her lifespan through medicine, she ultimately succumbed to illness, remaining one of Han Li’s quiet regrets.

Masters

Monarch Soul Divergence

Han Li’s most influential mentor in practice, Monarch Soul Divergence provided techniques, artifacts, and life-saving guidance. Their relationship resembled that of teacher and successor rather than formal master and disciple.

Li Huayuan

Li Huayuan accepted Han Li as a disciple in name. Though initially dismissive due to Han Li’s poor spiritual roots, he later allowed Han Li to select the Three Essence Revolutions Technique, unknowingly setting him on a powerful path.

Zenith Yin

Zenith Yin coerced Han Li into a false master-disciple relationship to obtain the Heavenvoid Cauldron. After Han Li escaped, Zenith Yin pursued him until Han Li eventually orchestrated his death.

Doctor Mo

Han Li’s first cultivation master, later revealed to be plotting to seize his body. Han Li killed him in self-defense.

Patriarch Miro

A later-era cultivator who indirectly influenced Han Li through limited guidance and demonstrations of upper-realm power structures.
