Yu Zhitong was a Qi Condensation realm master that resided in the Heavenly South Region. He was a member of a cultivation clan. As a member he cultivated the Eternal Spring Arts and managed to attain the 7th level of the arts. Unfortunately he was unable to progress and attain Foundation Establishment. He began exploring the mortal world looking for enlightenment that could overcome a heart demon and continue progressing in the arts
Accident
On his journey he by chance encountered fortune by finding rare Blood Spirit Grass that would greatly increase his chances of breaking through to the next stage. However, this became his misfortune as obtaining the grass resulted in a life-death struggle that crippled him. In his period of weakness he met an ambitious mortal who was looking to obtain powers immortal powers. This mortal named Mo Juren poisoned Yu Zhitong to destroying his body. Yu Zhitong used a special technique called the Blood Soul Curse to attach his soul to Mo Juren.
However, Yu Zhitong was unable to forcefully possess Mo Juren’s body because it was not refined to handle Spiritual Energy. If Yu Zhitong fully possessed the mortal body, it would break down. Needing a different body, Yu Zhitong manipulated Mo Juren’s greed in becoming an immortal cultivator. Through Mo Juren, Yu Zhitong found a young mortal Han Li who was taught the Eternal Spring Arts. Over time Han Li’s body was refined using the arts becoming a suitable replacement.
Failed attempt to claim a body
Yu Zhitong took steps to increase the odds of success. He taught Mo Juren a technique to take over Han Li’s body. Mo Juren killed himself by foolishly using the technique. As a mortal, Mo Juren’s soul was considerably weaker than Han Li who had cultivated body and soul using the Eternal Spring Arts. As a result, Mo Juren died when his soul was consumed by Han Li’s soul. Originally the plan was for Mo Juren’s attempt to weaken Han Li. Unfortunately, Yu Zhitong mispredicted Han Li’s strength. Yu Zhitong planned for Han Li to have cultivated up to the 4th layer, however, Han Li ascended to the 6th layer. As a result, Yu Zhitong was surprised and failed to take over Han Li’s body.
Now without any host body, Yu Zhitong was in a perilous situation. He attempted to trick Han Li into temporarily housing his soul. However, Han Li was a quick learner and instead poisoned Yu Zhitong’s detached soul using water containing seven poisons. Frantically struggling, Yu Zhitong exhausted his remaining Spiritual Energy attempting to shake the poison off. Eventually, Yu Zhitong grew incredibly weak that a ray of sunlight caused what remained of his soul to dissipate.
