History
Yan Ruyan was born into the prominent Yan Clan in the Heavenly South Region, renowned for her extraordinary Heavenly Spiritual Roots. From an early age, she displayed exceptional talent, earning the clan’s recognition and high expectations. As a Qi Condensation cultivator, she was trusted to represent the Yan Clan in a secret negotiation with the Ghost Spirit Sect. The negotiation resulted in her becoming the Dao Companion of the sect’s young master, through which she was granted the Great Blood Spirit Arts. Using this technique, she absorbed the souls of deceased cultivators as part of her foundation, greatly enhancing her cultivation potential.
Following this alliance, the Yan Clan formally joined the Ghost Spirit Sect and betrayed the Seven Sect Alliance of the State of Yue. The clan hosted the Treasure Seizing Assemblies, offering disciples from other sects as a dowry to Yan Ruyan’s future husband, strengthening both her position and that of her clan within the sect.
Over a century later, Yan Ruyan attained Core Formation and married Wang Chan. She participated in a mission to acquire treasures from the hidden residence of the legendary cultivator Cang Kun, accompanied by several Nascent Soul cultivators. As one of the weaker Core Formation participants, she relied on her husband and other Nascent Soul elders for protection. During the mission, Han Li’s Yin Devil Execution technique severely injured Wang Chan, severing both of his legs. Though he survived due to the sect’s healing resources, this incident foreshadowed future events that would take his life.
Years later, Yan Ruyan joined a mission to obtain Devilfall Valley. Despite protection from her husband and other Nascent Soul elders, the sect was tricked into releasing an Elder Devil, resulting in massive casualties. Yan Ruyan survived, but the incident decimated the sect’s power structure and shifted influence to the Yan Clan.
In a later period, when the Ghost Spirit Sect faced pressure from the expanding Spirit Controlling Sect, Yan Ruyan sought help from Han Li, who had become a Late-Nascent Soul cultivator. She offered gifts to secure his aid but discovered that Han Li harbored enmity toward her husband, Wang Chan. Han Li demanded that her husband be eliminated to receive assistance. Wang Chan was subsequently killed to fulfill this condition, leaving Yan Ruyan widowed. Conflicted by her loyalty and affection, Yan Ruyan delegated the task to other members of the Yan Clan, reflecting the complex interplay between personal emotions and sect politics.
Through these events, Yan Ruyan survived multiple high-stakes conflicts, rose in influence within both her clan and the Ghost Spirit Sect, and mastered the Great Blood Spirit Arts, solidifying her legacy as a skilled and politically astute cultivator.
